Helping More Families Find Support: Children’s Advocacy Nonprofit Increases Online Conversions by 75%

Champions for Children (CFC) is a nonprofit organization that serves the Tampa and Hillsborough county areas of Florida. Their mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect through family education programming.

In late 2019, CFC became the first recipient of Big Sea’s annual WaveMakers Grant. This led to a successful initial strategy engagement in 2020, followed by a $25k website renovation, and ongoing campaign work for continued growth. But when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all of CFC’s planned in-person fundraising events, Big Sea was there to guide the organization’s pivot to a digital-first strategy that not only kept fundraising on track, but exceeded all in-person goals.

A content strategy designed for steady growth

After establishing CFC’s pain points and opportunities, a round of SEO, content, and UX/IA audits helped us identify key areas for improvement. Our goals were clear: grow brand awareness and increase the number of individual donors, re-engage their existing audience, and develop a multi-touch strategy for their year-end giving campaign.

Once we set a foundation with the client and provided some initial marketing training for CFC’s staff, we began to build on a long-term plan.

Dedicated investment in digital marketing sees major returns

Our digital strategy with Champions for Children focused on solutions for three key areas:

Marketing Systems

  • Development of a Welcome Email Series
  • Creation of a social media plan, training for CFC staff, and a handoff to CFC’s internal team
  • Website renovation and search engine optimization

Content Production

  • Creation of long form content (including case studies, white papers, and state of the region reports)
  • Development of a blog, guides, and event/program recaps
  • Creation of end-of-year emails and general engagement email campaigns

Video Production

  • Creation of long form video for their annual Child Abuse Awareness Month gala in April
  • Development of program highlight videos

“[T]he team really came to understand what we do and could speak the way we would speak about our work, and that really is incredibly valuable in working with a marketing team … they also put in the effort to understand their client’s needs. Big Sea has guided the internal team through marketing tasks, creating video tutorials to foster more independence and delivering strong creatives. This makes them great partners for nonprofits.”
