As Director of People Operations at Big Sea, I wear many hats — serving in HR functions, championing team culture and building the support systems the team needs to thrive. I also work hand in hand with the leadership team to implement the strategy and initiatives that help us fulfill our big goals and ultimately, the Big Sea vision. I balance my time between driving outcomes toward big picture goals, making sure small things don’t fall through the cracks and creating processes and systems to maximize our time and effort.
I am thrilled to be on the Big Sea team. I’ve watched Big Sea grow through the years and have witnessed the values-based culture that has emerged. I was a Big Sea client many years ago so I know the quality and integrity that is expected. This is a company that I am really proud to work for. I’m a firm believer in the power of human potential which can be multiplied when teams work together toward a shared vision. At Big Sea, I get the opportunity to make an impact on the future of work through thoughtful systems and a focus on employee experience.
My love for business and people started when I was given the opportunity to lead in retail management in my early 20’s. I enjoyed the challenge of increased responsibility but I really loved the experience of building a team based on mutual respect. Through the years I’ve had many opportunities to lead and learn from others. I’ve worked primarily from home, managing and working with remote teams since 2006 while juggling raising a family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In 2010 I started my own corporate wellness company where I implemented health education, fitness and stress management programs in municipalities and companies throughout Tampa Bay. I became passionate about workplace culture and learned so much from my teachers, mentors and clients during this time. A few years ago I decided to return to the employee world and have built a career working closely with CEOs in small business operations.
For me, work and life go hand in hand. I live in Asheville, NC with my husband Joran, two kiddos Logan and Ashton, and our dog Bowie. We’ve been working at home and unschooling our children for many years now, so the lines between work and life are very blurry and we embrace it. I love the flexibility of being able to work whenever great ideas come along and attend to family needs in the moment. We like to chill at home a lot, watching movies, playing games, swimming, cooking and doing creative things. I also enjoy being active and learning. I exercise almost everyday and listen to podcasts and audiobooks to increase my knowledge on the things that interest me. When I venture out, I enjoy live music, food, conversation with friends and just wandering around our beautiful city, shopping and seeing the sights. Traveling is also something that I enjoy and want to do much more of.
